Visit of the CPD in Lovech
The Commission for Protection against Discrimination (CPD) implemented its National Campaign for Accessible Architectural Environment under the title “ACCESSIBLE BULGARIA”. Within the framework of the campaign, the Commission intends to conduct a survey on the accessibility of urban infrastructure and public facilities in order to show good practices as well as to identify irregularities.

In fulfillment of its powers as an independent state body on equality, the CPD started a series of visits to the country to meet with the heads of state authorities, public authorities and local self-government bodies, to focus on the problem and to start a process of its gradual solution.

After a thorough inspection was carried out by the Commission for Protection against Discrimination, on 26 April 2018, at a working meeting at the Regional Administration in Lovech, Ana Dzhumalieva, Chairperson of the CPD, handed the Regional Governor Georgi Terziyski a certificate for accessibility of the building of the Regional Administration in accordance with the objectives and criteria of the National Campaign “ACCESSIBLE BULGARIA”. Georgi Terziyski thanked for the recognition, stressing that the attitude towards people with disabilities is an indicator of administrative and corporate culture and as a regional governor he is reassured that the issue of accessibility of the building of the Regional Administration was solved years ago.

The visit was also used to familiarize the attendees with the functions and powers of the Commission, as well as with statistics on the complaints received by the CPD from Lovech and the region. From the CPD side were also present Baki Husseinov, deputy chairman of the CPD, as well as members of the Commission Vladimira Stoimenova, Zlatina Dukova, Sofia Yovcheva, Nasko Atanasov and Peter Kichashki.
