Participation of the CPD in the GANHRI Annual Meeting and Conference, organized by GANHRI in collaboration with the UN Human Rights Office in Geneva
The Chairperson of the Commission for Protection from Discrimination, Prof. Dr. Ana Dzhumaliyeva, the Secretary General, Prof. Dr. Nadejda Yonkova and the Chief Expert of the APMC Department, Akram Khan, participated in the GANHRI Annual Meeting and Conference, organized by GANHRI in collaboration with the UN Human Rights Office. 

The Forum will take place on 10-12 March 2025 in. It was attended by more than 250 representatives of national human rights bodies, UN agencies, state representatives and civil society. 

The event also included a conference on “The Human Rights of Women and Girls: promoting gender equality”, which marked the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. It provided an opportunity for national human rights institutions (NHRIs) to discuss progress made in the implementation of the Amman Declaration and Programme of Action adopted by NHRIs at their 12th International Conference in 2022. Opening the annual conference, GANHRI Chairperson Maryam Al-Attiyah stressed, \"Gender equality is not only a fundamental right but also a prerequisite for sustainable and just societies. The time for action is now.\" The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, in his opening remarks, highlighted the critical role of the NIHR: \"You are in a unique position as advocates of international law and experts in the national context. 

Human rights are about facts.\" The high-level session was also attended by Jürg Lauber, President of the Human Rights Council, and Achim Steiner, UNDP Administrator. Pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution 57/23, the annual meeting also included two knowledge-sharing sessions, providing platforms for sharing experiences and strategies, as well as several complementary events. The focus was on the role of human rights bodies in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, addressing the unique challenges they face and ensuring their full participation in society. 

Discussions focused on the role of NIHR in effectively monitoring the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and their advocacy for inclusive policies and addressing intersectional discrimination.
