Visit of ECRI representatives to the CPD. Press conference with ECRI and CPD representatives


On 23 April 2025, representatives of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) visited the Commission for Protection against Discrimination (CPD). The meeting took place prior to a roundtable organised by ECRI in cooperation with the Commission for Protection against Discrimination (CPD) to exchange views on the follow-up to the recommendations submitted by ECRI to Bulgaria in October 2022. Present at the meeting on behalf of ECRI were Bertil Cottier - ECRI Chairperson, Irena Ilieva - ECRI Vice-Chairperson and ECRI Member for Bulgaria, Jens Wedsted-Hansen - ECRI Bureau Member and ECRI Rapporteur for Bulgaria, Johan Fristedt - ECRI Executive Secretary, Sophie Kurth - Senior Project Officer and Researcher, and Tobias Bergman - ECRI Secretariat. On behalf of the CPD at the meeting were Ana Dzhumalieva - Chairperson of the CPD, Baki Husseinov - Deputy Chairperson of the CPD, CPD members Vladimira Stoimenova, Zlatina Dukova, Sabrie Sapundzhieva and Nasko Atanasov; Nadezhda Yonkova - Secretary General of the CPD, Akram Khan - Head of the Office of the Chairperson, Polya Hristova - State Expert, and Kiril Stankov - Chief Specialist. The guests were thoroughly acquainted with the work of the CPD as an equality body, with the proceedings before the institution, with a number of activities of the institution related to prevention. They were impressed by the broad scope of the Commission\'s work. ECRI representatives asked a number of questions related to the activities of the Commission for Protection against Discrimination. After the meeting, a press conference was organised with representatives of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) and the Commission for Protection against Discrimination. ECRI representatives outlined the main recommendations of the 2022 report. The journalists asked questions on the subject, which were answered at length.
