On 10 and 11 June 2024, Astalos Csaba, President of the National Council for Combating Discrimination of Romania, paid a two-day official visit to the Commission for Protection against Discrimination (CPD). He was accompanied by Catalin Raiu - Secretary of State and member of the Governing Board of the institution, Cristina Vlad - Head of Litigation, Legal Affairs and Structures, Adina Patrascu - Director of Economics, Human Resources and Communications, Cristian Nuica - Head of Legal Department, Marius Mirodoni - Counsel, Communications, Public Relations and Personnel Management.
On the first day of the meeting with members of the CPD, the guests were thoroughly introduced to the structure and activities of the Commission for Protection against Discrimination, focusing on its character as an independent state body, its broad powers, the proceedings and legal force of its decisions, its regional representatives. Particular attention was paid to the preventive work of the institution and to the Discrimination Act.
A number of questions were asked on both sides about the specifics of the activities of the two related institutions.
On behalf of the CPD the meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Ana Dzhumaliyeva - Chairperson of the CPD, Prof. Dr. Baki Husseinov - Deputy Chairperson of the CPD, members of the CPD - Dr. Vladimira Stoimenova, Eng. Nasko Atanasov, Dr. Orlin Kolev, Eng. Sabrie Sapundzhieva and Sofia Yovcheva, as well as Prof. Dr. Nadezhda Yonkova - Secretary General of the CPD.
A meeting of the guests from Romania with Prof. Dr. Irena Ilieva - member of the Management Board of the Fundamental Rights Agency, Vice-Chair of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) and Director of the Institute of State and Law at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was also held at the CPD. The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Nadezhda Yonkova, Secretary General of the CPD.
Representatives of the National Council for Combating Discrimination of Romania visited the Central Synagogue in Sofia, where a meeting was held with the National Council of Religious Communities in Bulgaria. Its President, Robert Gerassi, briefed the guests on the main highlights of the Council\'s work. On the part of the CPD, the meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Baki Husseinov - Deputy Chairman of the CPD, Prof. Dr. Nadezhda Yonkova - Secretary General of the CPD, and Elka Bojova - Director of the SPAP Directorate.
