From 7 to 9 April 2025, Prof. Dr. Ana Dzhumalieva, Chairperson of the CPD, Prof. Dr. Nadezhda Yonkova, Secretary General of the CPD, and Akram Khan, Chief Expert at the CPD, participated in an international conference in Rome, Italy. <\/div>

Representatives of national human rights bodies and civil society participated in the forum. Civil society defenders from Italy and other countries, Italian and foreign students, international delegations participated. \n\nOn 7 April at the Europe House in Rome, the David Sassoli Centre for European Experience, the delegations participated in a discussion with young people on the theme \\“Beyond Borders: civic advocacy and active citizenship. Rights, participation and responsibility.  <\/div>

The role of young people in contemporary society\\“.\n\nAssoc. Dzhumalieva presented to the audience the experience of the Bulgarian Commission for Protection against Discrimination, and in the ensuing discussion actively joined the other two representatives of the CPD – prof. Nadezhda Yonkova and Akram Khan.\n\nOn 8 April 2025, the ceremony to celebrate 45 years of Civil Protection took place at the Regional Council of Lazio. The history, role and future prospects of this institutional figure, reference point for the protection of citizens\\’ rights and guarantor of administrative transparency, were presented.  <\/div>

The President of the National Anti-Corruption Authority (ANAC), Giuseppe Busia, delivered a strong message: \\’Civil protection and anti-corruption share a common goal: to build credible, open and accountable institutions. The participation of new generations in this day is proof that a culture of legality is built starting from the school classroom.\\“\n\nThe initiative showed how the value of civil protection is more relevant today than ever, able to renew itself and to dialogue with society, especially young people, to build a fairer, more participatory and transparent future.\n\nThe work continued in the afternoon in two sessions. <\/div>

The first session was held in the Latini Hall on \\“Civil protection today: challenges and opportunities for citizens\\’ rights\\“. Participants focused on topics such as digitalization, administrative transparency and the new social poverty. \n\nThe Chairperson of the CPD Prof. Dr. Ana Dzhumalieva presented a paper on \\“Human Rights in the Digital World\\“, which was met with great interest by the participants.\n\nAssociate Professor Dzhumaliyeva noted that with the penetration of digital technologies in almost all spheres of life, human rights acquire a new dimension. The digital environment provides new opportunities for access to information, freedom of expression and economic development, but also poses serious challenges to data protection, privacy and cyber security.  <\/div>

In her report, Associate Professor Dzhumalieva also drew attention to the adopted in 2024. The first of its kind legal act regulating the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) within the EU.\n\nPresentations were also made by representatives of Estonia, Turkey, Cyprus, Serbia, Malta, Italy and others.\n\nThe second session took place in the Di Carlo Hall and was entitled \\“The future of civil protection: innovation and institutional dialogue\\“. The focus of this session was on how to improve and renew the civil protection function.
